The MI bowlers, including ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, had an off day. Known for his lethal bowling, Bumrah conceded 54 runs in his four overs without claiming a wicket. The disappointment of losing despite such a big total was evident on captain Hardik Pandya’s face even as he admitted that bowling resources are strained. It wasn’t just Bumrah – Ashwani Kumar proved expensive, giving away 41 runs in two overs at an economy of 20.50. Spinner Allah Ghazanfar picked up two wickets but conceded 51 runs at 12.80 in his four overs. The defeat leaves Mumbai Indians ninth with four points from eight matches, while Sunrisers Hyderabad climb to third with 12 points from nine matches.“I think we don’t have a lot of options this season, we really need to see what all the differences we can make. I’m not going to put my bowlers under the bus. I think as an overall unit we haven’t been able to do what exactly Mumbai Indians stand for,” Pandya said when asked how he plans to tackle his bowling attack after failing to field a strong unit.“We really need to see what we all have to work on,” he added. The MI captain said that with continued support from the franchise owners and support staff, the team will find a way forward.“We have passionate owners and support staff, I hope we can work something out.”He also expressed regret for the loyal fans of Mumbai Indians and admitted that the team did not give them enough to cheer for.“We didn’t give them many opportunities to support us – but they were fantastic and loyal. Sometimes it hurts when the opposition come and start chanting their name. But we probably have to give them more (to cheer and shout),” he said.Pandya, however, credited the batsman for the delivery while admitting that missed chances – including dropped catches – hurt the team.“Yeah, I enjoyed (batting), I had fun on the ground today. Yeah, I think 244, I think I’ll back my bowlers to stop it, but we couldn’t execute it at other times today.“I think it’s been that kind of season (of missed chances on the field). When you get a few chances, you take them, that’s when the luck and the momentum changes. If you don’t, it hurts a little bit…all the guys tried really well. They gave it their all, it just didn’t work out,” he added.Mumbai Indians will face Chennai Super Kings next Saturday.
