Due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia, connectivity has been hampered by the Strait of Hormuz and the Suez Canal as choke points. Now that the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) is gaining traction as alternatives to bottlenecks, exporters from Karnataka and other Indian states are looking to tap into the global trade market, noted Kotraswamy M., Commissioner of Central Excise, Bengaluru North, here on Wednesday.
Speaking at a half-day seminar on “Navigating Geopolitical Challenges: Policy Actions and Preparedness to Build Resilience”, jointly organized by the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) and the Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM), Mr. Kotraswamy said, “IMEC is now gaining traction as a more efficient and reliable route depending on the Suit. Hormuz or even the Cape route, which is costly in terms of transportation and sailing time.”
