According to a recent study, a total of 108 wards in Ernakulam experience water shortage in summer.
A 2024 survey jointly conducted by the Center for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM), Kerala Forest Research Institute and Institute of Climate Change Studies revealed that residents in Mulanthuruthy, Muvattupuzha, Pampakuda, Koothattukulam and Piravom are most affected by water stress in summer. Wards mostly face insufficient availability of water and limited availability.
Efforts by local authorities to alleviate water stress through tanker supplies, rooftop collection and groundwater recharge have proven insufficient, according to the report. The survey was conducted under a project titled ‘Identification of Water Stress Hotspots in Kerala’.
