The CPI(M) says the government’s claims that it has reduced electricity load are misleading. The party has called on Power Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar and senior NDA leaders for an open debate on electricity tariffs and smart meters.
In a speech to the media on Wednesday, a member of the state secretariat of the party Ch. Babu Rao accused the government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of misleading the public. He said that while the government claimed to have reduced the cost of power purchase by 30 paise per unit, from ₹5.20 to ₹4.90, this benefit did not flow to consumers. Instead, he claimed that nearly ₹20,000 crore has been collected through various balancing charges in the last two years, compared to a relief of only ₹923 crore.
