
Weather Today: After days of sweltering heat, residents of Delhi woke up to a pleasant morning as strong winds and rain lashed the city on April 29. This dramatic change in weather comes after days of heat where the mercury soared to 44 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city, predicting more rain during the day.
Bringing relief to the national capital from the much-needed intense heat, the city is likely to experience “one or two spells of very light to light rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and strong surface winds of 20-30 kmph gusting to 40 kmph during the afternoon to evening”.

The city has been dealing with intense heatwaves for the past few days, but the latest weather forecast suggests that “maximum temperatures will drop by 3-4 °C during the next 3 days and then rise by about 2-3 °C. Maximum temperatures are likely to be below normal to normal during April 29 to May 4, 2026.”
The IMD has issued a rain warning, which has upgraded the weather warning to an orange warning. “Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by light thundershowers (30-40 kmph gusty winds) is very likely to occur over Delhi and NCR.
Similar weather conditions are likely in neighboring regions. “Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by light thundershowers and lightning (30-40 kmph gusty winds) are Bulandshahar, Khurja (UP) Bhiwari, Tizara, Khairthal, Kotputli, Alwar, Viratnagar (Rajasthan). Light rainfall is very likely to occur in Rajaund, Assandh, Barwala, Safi. Gohana, Gannaur, Hansi, Siwani, Meham, Tosham, Bhiwani, Loharu areas (Haryana) Shamli, Kandhla, Khatauli, Sakoti Tanda, Hastinapur, Chandpur, Daurala, Kithor, Amroha, Moradabad, Garhmukteshwar, Rampur, Siyana (UP) during next 2 hours IMD said.
Today’s weather in West Bengal
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, West Midnapore, Bankura and East Bardhaman districts, forecasting “thunderstorm with gusty winds (50-60 kmph) and lightning” and rain on Election Day in Phase 2 – April 29. A yellow warning is in effect for other districts.
The Met office also issued a warning to fishermen advising them not to venture into the sea along and off the coast of West Bengal and North Odisha.
