Hyderabad needs to move on from just building more roads and start making data-driven mobility decisions, risk slipping into Bengaluru’s gridlock and Delhi’s pollution crisis. That was the broad consensus at a policy conclave in Hyderabad, where policymakers, civic leaders and transport experts stressed the need for a more measured, evidence-based approach as the city continues to grow.
At the center of the discussion was a stark admission from Kyberabad Municipal Commissioner Srijana Gummall, who noted that decisions in cities are often “arbitrary” rather than scientific. “The real problem is not a lack of data, but how we translate it into decisions,” she said, calling for a move towards citizen- and data-driven planning.
