England Cricket has announced an aging 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales, with Nate Sciver-Brunt as captain. The most notable selection is uncapped Tilly Corteen-Coleman, who was included alongside pacers Issy Wong and Lauren Filer.
Corteen-Coleman came into her own at just 16 when she took four wickets in four balls for the South East Stars in the 2024 Charlotte Edwards Cup. Since then, she has built a strong reputation in The Hundred for Southern Brave. Despite her inclusion, England have largely retained their experienced core for their first domestic ICC tournament since winning the 2017 Over-50 World Cup.
There are three left-arm spinners in the team in Corteen-Coleman, Sophie Ecclestone and Linsey Smith. Off-spinner Charlie Dean was named vice-captain while veteran batsman Tammy Beaumont was left out of the squad. In the pace department, Lauren Bell is expected to lead the charge, supported by Issy Wong and Lauren Filer.
Wong’s selection marks the next step in her international resurgence after returning to the T20I squad last summer after missing out on the 2023 T20 World Cup in 2024 amid a difficult run of form.
Nat Sciver-Brunt will captain England in what will be her seventh T20 World Cup appearance, while Danni Wyatt-Hodge, who is in great form and recently turned 35, is heading into her eighth tournament.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 will run from June 12 to July 5 and will be the tenth edition of the tournament. It will also be the first to offer an expanded format, with 12 teams competing in 33 matches over the course of a month.
England have been drawn in Group B alongside New Zealand, West Indies, Ireland, Scotland and Sri Lanka, who they will face in their opening match on June 12 at Edgbaston. The team will aim to repeat their 2009 triumph when they won the inaugural edition on home soil. Since then, they have finished as runners-up three times in 2012, 2014 and 2018.
Before the tournament, England are scheduled to play a white-ball series against New Zealand and India as part of their preparations.
