A nationwide hartal called by Dalit and tribal organizations in Kerala on Tuesday demanding justice over the death of BDS student Nithin Raj had limited impact in Kasaragod district, with normal life largely intact in most places, although hartal supporters sporadically attempted to block vehicles in some hilly and rural pockets.
The police intervened in several places to remove obstacles and restore traffic. One person was taken into custody near Puthiyakotta on the Kanhangad State Highway after he allegedly tried to stop buses and trucks by waving a flag near a school.
