Amid fresh unrest and killings in Manipur, Union Home Minister Govind Mohan on Monday (April 27, 2026) reviewed the security situation in the northeastern state, which has been hit by ethnic violence since May 2023.
The security vacuum created by the withdrawal of around 8,500 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) for deployment during the West Bengal elections, frequent disruptions and blockades by women’s groups and new areas of conflict between the Kuki and Naga communities were among the topics flagged in the meeting, a senior government official told The Hindu. As of 2023, around 36,000 security forces, including the Assam Rifles, are deployed in Manipur.
