The White House said U.S. officials were reviewing Iran’s latest proposal while stressing hard red lines on any potential deal to end the ongoing conflict.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed on Monday (April 27) that President Donald Trump has convened his national security team to review the proposal.
“The president met with his national security team this morning. The meeting can continue,” Leavitt told reporters.
Trump’s “red lines” on Iran policy
Leavitt stressed that Washington’s stance on Iran remains unchanged, particularly when it comes to developing nuclear weapons.
“His red lines on Iran have been expressed very, very clearly,” she said, adding that Trump would speak publicly on the matter “very soon.”
She added, “I don’t want to get ahead of the president or his national security team.”
Iran announced an interim proposal
The talks come after reports that Tehran has proposed an arrangement that includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the US lifting its blockade of Iranian ports.
The proposal also reportedly seeks to delay negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program, which is a key point of the conflict.
Iran signals resistance and reach to Russia
Separately, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and confirmed Tehran’s strategic ties with Russia.
Araghchi said the Iranian people can resist “American aggression” and will overcome current problems, according to Iranian state media.
Pakistan’s role and diplomatic reports
Iran also reportedly communicated through Pakistan, suggesting that the conflict could end if the US lifted the naval blockade and provided guarantees against future military action.
According to reports, Tehran suggested that the nuclear negotiations could be dealt with at a later stage, separating it from the immediate ceasefire and maritime issues.
