
West Bengal | Four arrested in connection with TMC-BJP workers clash in Jagatdal
Jagatdal: The West Bengal Police arrested four persons in connection with violent clashes between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and BJP supporters outside the Jagatdal police station on Sunday evening (April 26, 2026).
The arrested accused have been identified as Koushik Das, Sikander Prasad, Gopal Routh and Shyamdev Shaw, while police said the remaining accused persons are absconding.
“Four persons, namely Koushik Das, Sikander Prasad, Gopal Routh and Shyamdev Shaw, have been arrested following raids at a dozen places in association with DCP Barrackpore. The remaining accused persons are absconding. Efforts are on to nab them, including ongoing raids targeting individuals including Firozjak and other police officers in Firozjak province.
According to the police, a retired police officer and a candidate from Jagatdal constituency visited the police station at 11 pm last night to lodge an FIR. Supporters of the opposing candidate learned about his visit. Subsequently, a violent mob of about 200 persons gathered at the Jagatdal police station. The crowd entered the premises of the police station without authorization, which created a serious situation in the area of public order.
To save the candidate, another candidate arrived at the venue after which the crowd became more aggressive. Both individuals managed to leave the police station with the help of their supporters. The mob went on to attack the residence of another candidate who lives there, using explosives, firearms and stone pelting. – NOT EVEN
