Telangana Minorities Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin and Academician M. Kodandaram were sworn in as Members of the Legislative Council (MLC) on Monday (April 27, 2026) morning.
On 30 August 2025, the Telangana Cabinet cleared their names to the Legislative Council under the Governor’s Quota. Mr. Azharuddin, a Congress leader and former cricketer, was sworn in as a Minister in the Telangana Cabinet on October 31, 2025, though he was not a member of the Legislative Assembly. According to constitutional provisions, a minister must be elected or nominated to the legislature within six months. April 30 of this year was a constitutional deadline. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla approved nominations of Mr. Azharuddin and Mr. Kodandaram last week.
