
Despite the heatwave forecast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said relief from extreme temperatures in the form of rain is likely for Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on Monday, April 27.
The weather agency said that while there may not be any significant change in maximum temperatures over northwest India till April 28, a gradual drop of 3-5°C is expected on April 29 and 30. On May 1 and 2, there is a gradual rise of 2-3°C.
Over central India, maximum temperatures are expected to drop by 2-3°C during the 28th-30th. April; while the maximum temperature in Maharashtra is likely to gradually drop by 23°C from April 27 to May 1.
Gujarat is expected to witness a gradual drop in maximum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius from April 29 to May 2, the IMD said. Northeast India is likely to see a marked change in maximum temperatures as they gradually drop by 3-4°C from April 27 to 30.
IMD heat wave warning
The heat wave is very likely to persist today in isolated pockets across northwest and central India, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Bihar and Gujarat, the IMD said in its forecast.
Heatwave conditions are also very likely in isolated pockets over Himachal Pradesh on April 27. Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are likely to experience heat waves till April 28.

Delhi, reeling under a heatwave warning with maximum temperatures expected between 43°C and 45°C, is expected to see partly clear skies on Monday afternoon, the IMD said.
The Meteorological Agency also predicted the possibility of thunderstorms and very light rain in the evening. Strong surface winds with gusts of up to 50 km/h are expected.
On Tuesday, April 28, the nation’s capital is bracing for a noticeable shift – with skies expected to generally cloud over. Maximum temperatures should drop to 40-42°C. Delhi is likely to experience a spell of very light rain or drizzle accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and winds gusting up to 50 kmph.
