Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Gidugu Rudra Raju on Sunday urged the state government not to allot land belonging to the Simhachalam temple for the proposed Google data centre, saying such a move would hurt the sentiments of Hindu devotees. He said earlier governments had refrained from using temple land for such purposes as it was against the guidelines of the Endowments Department.
Speaking to the media here, Mr. Rudra Raju said that the Congress would oppose the proposal to hand over 106 acres of land belonging to the Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swami Temple. He proposed that the government instead acquire private land for the project, with the company bearing the cost. “It is not appropriate for the government to use temple land,” he said.
