Bijapur police have arrested a construction contractor for allegedly aiding the suicide of a school principal who took his own life earlier this week, leaving behind a note blaming the arrested contractor as well as an engineer and a department officer. On 22 April 2026, Cherpal village resident Raju Pujari reportedly took his own life in the forest.
A senior police officer said initial investigation revealed that the construction work on the school building was being done by contractor Devashish Mandal through the school’s management committee, while around 40% of the amount was paid and there was a dispute over the remaining payment.
