Proposals have been sent to the government to set up 13 special courts to speed up the trial of narcotics-related cases in Andhra Pradesh, Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta said on Saturday.
Inaugurating the state headquarters of the Elite Anti-Drug Enforcement Group (EAGLE) in Mangalagiri, the DGP said that nearly 7,000 drug-related cases are pending in courts across the state. To strengthen enforcement, 10,000 drug testing kits will be supplied to the police in the first phase and another 10,000 in the second phase to help identify drug use and curb consumption.
