A preliminary report prepared by the Kerala Police on the alleged incident of a Coast Guard chopper flying over Sannidhanam at the Sabarimala hill shrine without prior permission yesterday said the incident was a serious safety lapse. The report, prepared by S Sreejith, Additional Director General of Police, is expected to be handed over to the Sabarimala Special Commissioner on Saturday (April 25, 2026).
According to the report, the helicopter flew directly over the mast of the temple, which it is high security zoneand the explanation given by the Coast Guard citing weather problems was not satisfactory. The report stressed the need for a detailed investigation into the incident and said more information should be gathered from the air traffic control room, along with a report from the meteorological observatory and statements from the pilots who were flying the helicopter.
