
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai Zonal Unit, on Monday, April 20, seized 70 metric tonnes of firecrackers of Chinese origin – smuggled into India and arrested two persons. Seizures worth ₹17.07 crore were made from four containers at Nhava Sheva Port in an operation codenamed ‘Pyro Heist’.
Shipments were declared as other goods to avoid customs control. The accused attempted to transfer the firecrackers from the imported containers to another vehicle at the Container Terminal (CFS) after breaking the container locks. DRI cops caught them in transit.
