The Thrissur Pooram celebrations began in a subdued spirit on Friday following the Mundathikode firework tragedy. The Paramekkavu Devaswom (Aanachamayam) elephant-goat show started at Agrasala on Friday, attracting visitors despite the gloomy atmosphere. The famous Manikandanal Pandal of Paramekkavu was illuminated in the evening and offered a glimpse of the charm of the Pooram, albeit with reduced grandeur.
A fireworks display scheduled for the day has been canceled in an effort to tone down the celebrations. Thiruvambady Devaswom observes a three-day mourning period after a disaster and limits its Aanachamayam to a single day.
