It’s a mixed picture of health care in Telangana that emerges from the 80th round of the National Sample Survey on Household Social Consumption: Health report, which was released recently. The average medical expenditure per hospitalization (excluding delivery) (as an inpatient) in Telangana is among the highest in the country at ₹52,743, topped only by Chandigarh at ₹80,478. The national average is comparatively lower at ₹37,858.
High hospitalization costs are associated with treatment in private hospitals (both urban and rural), averaging ₹72,561. For Tamil Nadu, treatment at private hospitals in urban areas is higher at ₹80,923. However, the cost comes down to ₹5,856 in Telangana government hospitals in urban areas, while it comes down to ₹1,364 in Tamil Nadu.
