Residents of Balekuppam village, which falls under Katpadi Assembly constituency in Vellore district, on Thursday boycotted the elections against the shifting of the existing polling station away from the Scheduled Castes (SC) residential colony and the lack of civic amenities in the area.
Residents said they hoisted black flags in front of their houses, shops and other public places in the village as a sign of boycott. They said Balekuppam village panchayat consists of nine wards, including a settlement for Dalits, on the outskirts of the village.
