In the early hours of March 18, three persons launched four mechanized boats from Juvvaladinne fishing harbor in SPSR Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. The loose boats, owned by fishermen from Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry’s Karaikal, were seized by fishermen from Krishnapuram and Chennayapalem villages in Nellore district a few months ago.
Fishermen from the two states have been at loggerheads for nearly four decades, with their boats seized while crossing the state’s maritime borders. These disputes often arise between fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, as many point to a lack of “proper sea patrolling” by law enforcement agencies.
