“We encounter bleeding during childbirth, high-risk pregnancies, abortions and gynecological surgeries, where the availability of safe blood is required. The availability of blood is essential, but so is its screening and traceability. The EQA obligation will establish uniform testing standards across blood banks, reduce the risk of transfusion-related complications and give doctors the same time to improve the availability of emergency blood when there is a shortage.”
