As campaigning for the second phase of West Bengal elections kicked off on Thursday (April 23, 2026), Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spared over jhaal muri (spiced puffed rice).
Four days ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a break from follow-up public meetings to enjoy jhaal muri from a shop in Jhargram, and since then Mr. Modi’s snack break has become a campaign issue in the state.
