April 23, 2026 became a red day in the electoral history of Tamil Nadu as the state recorded the highest voting percentage in the assembly elections – 84.69% (till 8:00 PM on Thursday). According to preliminary data, more than 4.85 lakh people voted since 7 am in all 234 assembly constituencies for the election to the 17th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said it was the highest voting percentage in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. “(The) ECI salutes every voter of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.”
