The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has issued an advisory for all Indian citizens travel to Maldivesregarding the recent strengthening of drug laws in this country.
Recent legislative changes to the Maldivian Drug Act, effective from March 2026, prescribe significantly increased penalties for drug-related offences, including life imprisonment and, in cases involving large-scale human trafficking, the death penalty, subject to confirmation by a competent court under Maldivian law.
