Monsoon tracker July 4 Highlights: IMD issues red alert in five districts of Odisha
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has surpassed the first phase target for pre-monsoon desilting of major sewers, removing over 1.77 lakh metric tonnes of silt from canals less than four feet deep across the city.
According to official data, the desilting data till June 25 indicates that the civic body has removed 1,77,499 metric tonnes of silt from 793 main drains against the first phase target of 1,41,003 metric tonnes, achieving 125.88% of the target. The first phase of the exercise was supposed to end by the 30th.
According to officials, for minor drains, less than four feet deep, the MCD removed 29,686.83 metric tonnes of silt against the Phase-I target of 25,850.5 metric tonnes, achieving 114.84% of the target.
Among the major sewerage networks, the central zone recorded one of the highest figures by removing 49,245.58 metric tons of silt against a target of 39,880.61 metric tons, while the western zone exceeded its target by removing 17,840.18 metric tons against 13,410.01 metric tons.
