A 16-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by unknown persons near Cheyyar town in Tiruvannamalai. Police said the survivor was visiting her grandmother’s village near the city on April 19. While she was riding a two-wheeler in the village, unknown persons on motorcycles stopped her. They sexually assaulted her and fled the scene. Police said she returned to her hometown in Kancheepuram, where her health deteriorated. The assault came to light after she was admitted to hospital. Based on the complaint, the Bharmadesam police near Cheyyar registered a case. Police sources said three suspects have been detained and are being interrogated by special teams.
