A Samajwadi Party (SP) delegation was reportedly attacked on Wednesday (April 22, 2026) in Kataria village of Ghazipur district after it tried to meet the family of a 16-year-old girl belonging to the Vishwakarma community who was murdered.
Former minister and SP leader Ram Asare Vishwakarma, who is part of the delegation, was also injured in stone pelting by some locals who questioned outside interference and politicization of the death. The SP claimed that goons linked to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were responsible for the attack. The police arrested 10 people in connection with the incident. Some villagers, on the other hand, claimed that they were assaulted by workers accompanying the SP delegation, which led to retaliation.
