A round table meeting of women’s organizations here on Wednesday called for immediate introduction of 33% reservation for women in legislatures without linking it to census or delimitation conditions. Organized by the Women’s Joint Action Forum, the meeting strongly criticized the Narendra Modi-led Union government and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using the Women’s Reservation Act for political gain.
The meeting was presided over by Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samakhya State General Secretary P. Durgabhavani and All India Democratic Women’s Association State Secretary Savitri. The speakers alleged that the BJP government was deliberately delaying the implementation even though the bill was passed in 2023.
