The district leadership of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has denied media reports that it is unhappy with United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Fathima Thahiliya from Perambra over her role in the recent controversy related to the “opening” of a room at the JDT Islam Education Complex in Vellimadukunna where Electronic Voting Machines (EVM.s Assembly) are kept.
In a statement on Wednesday (April 22, 2026), IUML district president MA Razak and district general secretary TT Ismail said media reports that claimed Ms Thahiliya did not inform the party leadership before arriving at the site were factually incorrect. K. Shahzad, husband and disbursing agent of Ms. Thahiliya, had already reached the spot as the returning officer had informed her about the opening of the room only an hour in advance. They also said that only two candidates were informed, which was a violation of the rules.
