Bargur Assembly constituency is predominantly agrarian, with sparse industrial distribution, except for Pochampalli. The constituency is drought-prone and agriculture sustained by borewell irrigation is drying up due to falling water table. Wells that were drilled a few hundred feet are now sunk anywhere up to 1,000 feet.
For constituents, implementation of the Badethalaavaai canal project would help fill 28 lakes from the Thenpennai river drain. The promise to fulfill the project, appearing in the AIADMK manifesto in 2016, has not been fulfilled.
