US-Iran war LIVE: President Donald Trump on Tuesday extended the US truce with Iran to allow more time for peace talks.
Trump indefinitely delayed the end of the two-week ceasefire, crediting Pakistan’s request as a mediator. He said he was giving them time as Iran’s “fractured” leadership to create a proposal. But Trump has made it clear that the US naval blockade of Iranian ports – a major problem for Tehran – will remain in place.

Trump wrote on social media, “…I have ordered our military to continue the blockade and in all other respects remain ready and capable, and therefore I will extend the ceasefire until their (Iranian) proposal is presented.”
After Trump’s tweetPakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the US President for extending the ceasefire. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also welcomed it.
The fate of peace talks hosted by Pakistan hung in the balance after Trump’s announcement.
This was confirmed by a White House official that Vice President JD Vance will not go to Pakistan for Tuesday’s meeting as originally planned until the Iranian proposal is made.
Before Trump’s interventionit was unclear exactly when the original ceasefire would expire, with Pakistan saying it would end at 2350 GMT on Tuesday.
As the original term of the truce Iran has preemptively threatened to attack the oil production facilities of its neighbors in the Persian Gulf if their territory is used to attack them once the ceasefire expires.
