A high-density urban assembly segment, Madurai North, established in 2009 after delimitation, comes with its share of problems, including sloping development. AIADMK has an edge as it won the seat in 2011 and 2016 and the anti-incumbency factor may play in its favor this time. In 2021, G. Thalapathy (DMK) won by a margin of 22,916 votes.
Driving through the main thoroughfares shows passable roads, obstacles have been removed in many places. The desilting work of Pandalkudi canal is going on while rejuvenation of Sellur Tank is half complete. Many roads in Tahsildar Nagar were paved while others missed the bandwagon. In some areas, UGD work has ended, while in others it is unfinished. In some areas, the company’s water supply has reached households, while in areas like Bharat Nagar in Kodikulam, connections have not been provided.
