Shivamogga Rangayana, a theater repertory, came up with the play Swatantryada Ota (Run of Freedom) based on the award-winning novel Bolwar Mahammad Kunhi. This is one of Shivamogga Rangayan’s major stage productions.
The Karnataka government has earmarked ₹1 crore in its 2025–26 budget for staging the play. Theater actor Nataraj Honnavalli directed the play. Published in 2012, the novel won the Kendra Sahitya Academy Award in 2016.
