Delimitation and reservation for women had no correlation and the two issues were lumped together (by the BJP-led Union government) with the intention of creating confusion and blaming the opposition, N. Ram, director of The Hindu Group, said in Chennai on Monday.
Speaking on the topic “Big win for Tamil Nadu! Defeat for the Union government!! “How and why?” at a meeting organized by the Chennai Thinkers’ Forum, he said the bill had certain in-built contradictions which the government could not explain in the Lok Sabha or in subsequent meetings. “Women’s reservation has been used as a cover for delimitation, as many people including (Congress leader) Rahul Gandhi have pointed out. That’s true. Women’s reservation and delineation have no connection at all,” asserted Mr. Ram.
