Sivakasi, the most industrial region of Virudhunagar district, has been nicknamed Kutti Japan. In addition to being the center of the fireworks industry, it has hundreds of printing and firing units that keep both skilled and unskilled workers busy in the otherwise arid region.
However, all is not well with the fireworks industry, which has faced many uncertainties over the past few years.
