Roads and Buildings (R&B) Minister BC Janardhan Reddy said the credit for realizing the long-cherished dream of the people of Rayalaseema – to build a steel plant – goes to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). The TDP leader dared YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MP YS Avinaash Reddy to debate any issue related to Rayalaseema projects and development.
“We are also ready to discuss the number of industries we have brought to the region in the last two years,” the minister said.
Speaking to the media from his camp office in Banaganapalle on Saturday, Mr. Janardhan Reddy said that the YSRCP, which had failed to set up a steel plant during its five-year tenure, was now trying to steal credit. He alleged that YSRCP leaders’ greed for commissions created a situation where industries that were ready to set up their units in the state fled.
“Several industries, including Kia’s auxiliaries and many others, for which ceremonies were held, fled in fear of the YSRCP leaders,” he said.
Mr. Janardhan Reddy alleged that the YSRCP government had in February 2023 inaugurated the steel plant at a site that lacked even a compound wall.
“Today we are not only building a steel plant but also setting up a greenfield solar power plant on 2,000 acres of land,” he said. Mr. Janardhan Reddy said that while the previous YSRCP government allocated a meager ₹ 2,000 crore for Rayalaseema irrigation projects, the present government is developing them with an investment of ₹ 24,000 crore over two years.
“We are ready to discuss with YSRCP leaders any issue related to projects and development of Rayalaseema,” he said.
The minister said the government is developing industrial zones at Orvakal and Kopparthi with an investment of ₹5000 crore. Regarding the Amaravati capital region, he said YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy keeps changing his stance and shifting between Amaravati, the three capital concept, and MAVIGUN.
