At a stationery store in south-west Delhi’s Palam Colony, when asked about the most effective and cheapest toilet cleaner, the shopkeeper looked for a plastic bottle to pour the liquid into.
“₹20 for 500ml. If you need a stronger liquid, I can get it from a Kapashera-based manufacturer at a slightly higher price of ₹50 per litre,” he said. Ground visits by Hindus in Delhi revealed that despite laws to regulate the sale of caustic substances, acid remains readily available without proof of identity or any inquiry as to the purpose of the purchase.
