DMK president MK Stalin on Saturday said the party would rise “like a phoenix” from setbacks, unlike some political parties, which he claimed were unable to withstand even a single electoral defeat.
Mr. Stalin, who left for London on a two-week personal visit, said no other political party had experienced the highs and lows that the DMK had in its history.
“Victory has never gone to our heads and defeat has never demoralized us. Therefore, we will rise like a phoenix,” he said in a statement.
The former chief minister said the DMK was bound by its ideology and had grown like a banyan tree.
“main cadre” of the party
As the “chief cadre of the party”, Mr Stalin said it was his responsibility to chart its course for the next hundred years by reflecting the aspirations of its cadres. He claimed that no other political party could match the organizational strength of the DMK.
“I have reiterated this point on several occasions and leaders of other political parties as well as leaders from other states have agreed with this view,” he said.
“When such a strong party moves forward, it should rise like a great mountain and shine like the sun. Together we must write the history of the party for the next century alongside the history of Tamil Nadu,” he said.
Mr. Stalin added that though he would be in London for the next two weeks, his thoughts would remain with the people and the party in Tamil Nadu.
