Rishabh Pant responded with confidence at the toss and opted to pounce first as Lucknow Super Giants look to take a fearless approach against one of the well-prepared sides this season.
Explaining the decision, Pant admitted that facing strong opposition brings a different mindset. “When we came here, we want them to set the total for us. They were one of the best teams in the tournament, but at the same time it gives us the freedom to play more freely,” he said.
Interestingly, Pant highlighted a shift in approach, suggesting that chasing bigger targets could actually help the team play with more clarity. “Generally, I feel playing for 220 runs is sometimes better than playing for 200,” he added, hinting at a more aggressive mindset on LSG’s part.
There was also a small update on the changes in the team, with Manimaran Siddharth coming into the side while Digvesh Rathi was absent. Pant also reassured fans about his fitness, confirming that his elbow injury has improved, replying with a smile: “Much better.”
With pressure mounting on LSG after inconsistent performances, Pant’s words reflect a team trying to reset mentally. The decision to bat first now puts the emphasis on their execution with the ball and whether their batsmen can finally play in the chase under high pressure.
