(NOT a photo) NEW DELHI: Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Muzarabani has found himself at the center of a growing controversy, with his agency strongly refuting Pakistan Super League’s decision to hand him a two-year ban. The fast bowler, who currently represents Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026, has been penalized for opting out of the PSL deal to pursue the IPL opportunity. However, his representatives have now issued a clear explanation, insisting that no formal contract was ever signed, so the ban is unwarranted.Muzarabani was initially brought in as a substitute in the PSL, reportedly in a deal worth PKR 11 million, before deciding to join KKR as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman. The move prompted disciplinary action by the Mohsin Naqvi-led PSL citing breach of undertaking. However, the player’s agency, World Sports Xchange, has pushed back strongly, saying the very basis of the punishment is flawed.

‘No contract, no breach’: Muzarabani’s agency sees ban as excessive
In a detailed statement, the agency clarified that although Muzarabani had been approached by Islamabad United, the deal remained conditional and was dependent on securing a No Objection Certificate from Zimbabwe Cricket. Crucially, they pointed out that such a NOC required a valid, signed contract – something that was never provided. “You simply cannot break a contract you never received,” read the statement, directly challenging the PSL’s stance. The agency further revealed that when KKR approached Muzarabani on February 27, there were no binding commitments preventing him from accepting the IPL offer. They described the ban as “incredibly excessive” and inconsistent with past cases involving actual breaches of contract. They called it an administrative error and called on the PSL to “decently withdraw the ban” and correct what they called an error on the part of the league.Amid the storm off the field, Muzarabani began to make his mark on the field. After a wicketless debut, he bounced back impressively with four wickets against Sunrisers Hyderabad, underscoring his value to KKR despite his limited opportunities so far.
