The predominantly agrarian Tirukkoyilur constituency in Villupuram district is witnessing a generational shift in the upcoming assembly elections to be held on April 23. Sitting MLA and party representative in North Tamil Nadu K. Ponmudy was denied the seat for the election.
Mr. Ponmudy was replaced by his first son and former MP Gowtham Sigamani as the ruling DMK candidate. He faces a fight from S. Palanisamy of the AIADMK and Hemarajan, an advocate of the Naam Tamilar Katchi. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam is also in the fray.
