Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Saturday (April 18, 2026) alleged that the Union government had failed to release the state’s due share of funds even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued his regular visits to Tamil Nadu after the announcement council elections.
Campaigning in Gobichettipalayam for DMK candidates N. Nallasivam in Gobichettipalayam and M. Sivabalan in Anthiyur assembly constituencies, Mr. Udhayanidhi said that the AIADMK and the BJP had tried to stop the Magalir Urimai scheme by going to court citing the election. However, Chief Minister MK Stalin ensured that ₹5,000 was distributed to 1.31 crore women ahead of the elections, he said. People had withdrawn the money earlier fearing that the Union government might take it away, he added.
