Zimbabwean international Blessing Muzarabani’s agency has hit back at the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after the pacer was handed a two-year ban, arguing he never signed a formal contract before deciding to join Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.
Muzarabani was initially announced as a replacement by signing PSL for a deal worth PKR 11 million (Rs. 37.4 million approximately). However, he later withdrew and signed KKR as replacement for Mustafizur Rahman, prompted disciplinary action by the league.
His agency World Sports Xchange has now publicly disputed the decision, saying the pacer cannot be accused of breaching a contract that was never issued.
“Over the past six weeks, we have remained publicly silent as we did not wish to create or stir up further hostility,” the agency said, adding that it was now forced to respond due to the “voluminous and disgusting nature of the criticism” directed at the players.
The agency asks about the PSL process and timeline
According to the agency, Islamabad United approached Muzarabani about a potential PSL opportunity, with terms being agreed on the basis of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Zimbabwe Cricket.
However, they stressed that such NOC cannot be obtained without a formal contract, which they claim was never provided.
“The NOC cannot be acquired without a contract from the PSL,” the statement said, adding that the league and the franchise nevertheless “announced the signing to the world via social media.”
The agency further claimed that no contract had been issued even two weeks after the notification.
“Still no contract received from PSL/Islamabad United,” the statement said, explaining that it was only after this delay that KKR approached the player and sealed the deal.
The agency reiterated its position, stating, “You simply cannot break a contract you never received.”
Ask PSL to lift “excessive” ban
The World Sports Xchange also criticized the severity of the punishment, calling the two-year ban disproportionate.
“We feel that any ban from the PSL is incredibly excessive and out of line with the punishment given to players who have actually breached their contract in the past,” the statement read.
The agency urged PSL to reconsider its decision and accept responsibility for what it called administrative misconduct.
“We urge PSL to politely revoke this ban and accept this situation for what it is, an administrative error at their end, nothing more,” he added.
Despite the strong stance, the agency maintained that there was no animosity towards the league or the franchise, saying, “We do not hold any grudge against PSL or Islamabad United.”
The situation continues to develop after the agency’s statement.
