Pulayanarkotta Hospital Extra Beds for MCH Patients

Kerala Health Minister K. Muraleedharan said that patients who are admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College but are forced to occupy floor space due to lack of hospital beds will now be accommodated at the Chest Hospital in Pulayanarkotta.

The decision to accommodate additional inpatients at the MCH in Pulayanarkotta was taken in a meeting convened by the minister attended by senior officials of the health and medical education department and the managing directors of various hospitals in the district.

It was pointed out that the Pulayanarkotta Chest Hospital, which has more than 500 beds, will be useful in accommodating the patients who flood the MCH during the epidemic season. The decision is also being taken as part of the government’s general policy that patients should not lie on the floor, Mr. Muraleedharan said.

He ordered the General Hospital (GH) administration to set up a canteen in the hospital without delay. In the meeting, some major decisions were taken to expand the development of GH Thiruvananthapuram, including offering 24/7 care in many medical departments such as cardiology to reduce overcrowding at MCH.

The Minister said that a new CT Scan will be installed at GH with the help of Rajiv Gandhi Center for Biotechnology. The space rental and power usage charges would be borne by the RGCB. The scans would be offered to people at a much lower rate than what is charged at other private diagnostic centers and a certain amount per scan taken would be given to the hospital development company.
