Opposition parties have decided to again move the motion for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Parliament. This came after the opposition defeated a Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill that sought to redistribute Lok Sabha seats based on the 2011 census to speed up the implementation of women’s reservation.
On March 12, as many as 63 members of the Rajya Sabha and 130 members of the Lok Sabha moved a motion to remove Mr. Kumar from the post of CEC. Speakers of both chambers rejected it on April 6.
