Hyderabad Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday (April 17, 2026) accused the Union government of being unreasonable in not including his proposed amendments in Delimitation (Constitution (131st Amendment)) Bill and stated that their goals were to prevent gerrymandering, ensure a free and fair exercise, and establish dual-member constituencies.
In a statement published on social networks – Mon The Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill of 2026 did not pass in the Lok Sabha and the Union government shelved the delimitation bill – Mr. Owaisi said his proposals sought to preserve the existing ratio of seats in the Lok Sabha so that southern states did not lose representation compared to states in northern India. He also proposed transferring reserved seats for women to two member constituencies, with two MPs representing each seat. That would include a woman. He assumed that this approach would avoid “bad faith” objections.
