In a strange turn of events, a video of a woman throwing cash has left netizens shocked and amazed at the same time. The incident reportedly occurred on Friday morning, according to The Standard Hong Kong newspaper. A woman from Shantou in China’s Guangdong province was seen throwing money away, causing chaos to erupt in a high-rise apartment. Reportedly, people who had gathered to watch the incident rushed to collect notes.
“Money rain” in China
According to the report, the incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. at Star Lake City Residential Complex in Longhu District. The woman was seen ripping off a handful of HK$1,000 (approx ₹1.5 million) notes before throwing them off the balcony.
Several reports claimed that the incident appeared to be related to a domestic issue. It is said that the woman decided to throw away the money in question after an argument between the husband and wife. Rumors claimed that the total amount thrown in may have been as high as HK$2 million.
Police and firemen reportedly arrived at the scene later.
According to the same report, the employees claimed that those who withdrew the money had already returned the Hong Kong dollars. They confirmed that these are genuine notes.
However, the property management added that the resident threw the money away for unknown reasons. The public was asked to hand over the money to the headquarters or local police station.

Police respond
The police have launched an investigation.
Zhuchi Police Station of the Longhu District Public Security Bureau responded to the incident. Police confirmed the same, adding to The Standard that the situation had been “dealt with”. The authorities are said to be currently investigating the whole matter and are encouraging those who withdrew the money to return some. Others are also asked to cooperate if money is found. An official announcement on the matter is expected to come out soon.

Meanwhile, the news received mixed reactions from netizens after the video was shared online. Someone took to X, formerly Twitter, and wrote: “This Chinese woman went viral after throwing over $162,000 from her balcony onto the street after an argument with her husband.
