Iran on Saturday reversed course on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, reimposing restrictions on the critical waterway after the US said the move would not end its blockade.
The Islamic Republic’s joint army said “control of the Strait of Hormuz has returned to its original state … under the strict command and control of the armed forces,” the AP reported.
It has warned that it will continue to block transit through the strait as long as the US blockade of Iranian ports remains in place, according to an AP report.
The announcement came after US President Donald Trump said the US blockade would “remain in full force” until Tehran reaches a deal with the US, including a deal on its nuclear program.
